Colour masking is a feature that allows recolouring of a digital material. This can be useful to explore design alternatives using colourways.
For example, in a white garment with blue stitched pattern, you can use colour masking to create an alpha mask for the white background and a second alpha mask for the blue stitched pattern. The colour of the pattern can be changed by opening the base colour texture in Photoshop, and then using the second blue mask to select only the stitched pattern pixels for colour adjustment.
To create colour masks for your Bandicoot digital material:
- Scan your material or import your digital fabric into Bandicoot
- Click the Download button for the material from within the library or the material viewer
- In the Material Download screen, Unlock the material
- If your material was imported, this costs 1 credit
- If you scanned your material with Bandicoot, this costs 10 credits
- Switch to the Colour masks tab

- Inspect the masks of your tiled material by clicking on the mask colours, or using the left and right navigation buttons on the mask image
- If your texture has more than two colours you wish to mask separately, use the "Number of colour masks" control to specify the number of colours
- When you are happy with the mask preview, click Download to download your selected number of masks
Please note the following:
- The colour mask feature is available for tiled materials. Please contact us if you would like colour masks for your untiled material.
- Colour masks may be missing for older materials. If the colour mask tab does not appear in the Download screen, generate the masks by entering the Tiling Editor and clicking "Process".
