Bandicoot’s low-touch tiling is a new approach to tiling that makes it quick and easy to create seamless tiles for the vast majority of digital materials with just a few clicks.
Our software will automatically straighten the yarn and correct for shading. If there is a pattern, then the pattern will be carefully aligned with the tile.

The low touch editor works well with a wide variety of materials, including:
Minor blemishes such as small marks or creases can also be handled.
If you have a more complex material with strong organic variation or major blemishes, then additional tiling tools may be required. Please see our 🪟 Tiling Guide for more details.

The low-touch tiling tool has two steps: 1. Inspection, and 2. Adjust tile.
After scanning (📸 Scanning Guide) or importing (🧳 Texture Import Guide) a material, open it from the gallery to enter the Inspection step.

How to review your auto-tile with Bandicoot

The purpose of this step is to help you examine your tiled material and determine whether the fully automatic tiling result passes a quality check.
Automatic tiling works a large proportion of the time. The most common problems are easy to fix with just a few clicks. These are the most common problems to check for:
Check that multiple tile repeats look like one big seamless material
If there is a defect like lint, creasing, or shading in the scan, then multiple copies of the tile can look obviously repeated.
Useful action | Mouse command | Shortcut key |
---|---|---|
Increase the texture scale in the Tiled view | “Texture scale” slider | +, - |
Change object mesh to Rumpled | “Object mesh” drop-down | |
Move the light over the material | Hold Shift key + move mouse | |
Inspect each texture map individually | “Texture layer” slider | Z, X |
Check any pattern repeat is correct and the fabric doesn’t break at the seams
The tile repeat might not match the pattern repeat, or the yarn might be broken at the seams if weave detection failed.
Useful action | Mouse command | Shortcut key |
---|---|---|
Compare the tiled repeat with the untiled material | Click “Tiled view”, “Untiled view” buttons | T, U |
Zoom in for close inspection of seams | Mouse wheel | |
Pan the material to move the inspection area | Right click + drag | |
Toggle the existing tile seams overlay to see the fabric under the seam | Click “Show tile seams” overlay button | S |
Inspect each texture map individually | “Texture layer” slider | Z, X |
After inspection, select one of the two options based on the inspection result:
Accept tiling - Choose this option to mark the tiling as OK. This can help you to keep track of which materials have already passed review. You can also filter accepted materials in the Gallery view.
You can undo this action if needed by clicking the same button again.
After you have accepted the tiling, you are ready to download it and use it in your 3D tools.
Adjust tiling - Choose this option if you need to change the tiling to address a problem. This will take you to 2. Adjust tile.
There are two low touch tools for adjusting the tile: Smart Crop and Set Pattern Corners.
