The headlines for this release are:
- The low-touch tiling editor now guides the user through two simple tiling steps: 1. tile inspection, and if needed 2. a highly automated adjustment step
- Point-based tiling can now automatically refine placed points to improve their accuracy, and automatically generate control points
Low touch tiling
The Low-touch tiling page has details on how to use the new editor mode.
Even if you are experienced with our full editor, we recommend starting with the low touch editor each time you open a new material. The low touch editor will automatically align the yarn and reduce shading. By adding a few adjustment clicks to set the pattern repeat or avoid blemishes, most materials can be tiled without leaving the low touch editor.
If you’ve been using Bandicoot for scanning or tiling for a while, then you may notice these changes:
- When you open a material, the Tiling Editor immediately appears.
- If you need to open the Shimmer Editor, there is a new button at the top
- This can be used as before to adjust material settings like the light intensity or orientation
- The Tile Inspector now appears when you open the Tiling Editor
- You can always get back to the full tiling editor by clicking the chevron at the top right of the inspector panel
- In the full tiling editor, the main panels inside the Tiling Boundaries tab have been renamed, since both methods are now significantly automated:
- Automatic is now called Weave-based — this can be used for fabrics where our automatic WeaveLock algorithm has detected and straightened the yarn (both wovens and knits)
- Manual is now called Point-based — this can be used:
- where WeaveLock fails, or
- when there is a pattern repeat that isn’t aligned with the weave
Import pricing
We’ve also introduced new pricing for importing your textures:
- With the release of low touch tiling, we believe that tiling is now significantly faster and easier, than ever before and to reflect this value the new standard price is 5 credits per material
- To celebrate the launch, we are offering a 40% discount, so the discounted price is 3 credits per material (for a limited time only)
During the beta period, the price to unlock imported materials was a very special 1 credit per material. Thank you to all the beta testers for the valuable feedback we received during the beta!
The prices for scanning with Bandicoot and stitching remain the same as before. Tiling is still included for free when you scan with a Bandicoot Frame.
Scan reports
We upgraded the camera position map shown in your scan reports. This new map will appear on all new scans since the update, and gives you better feedback on how many photos in each scan hit their target positions.
